How this calculator works
Hydrometers are calibrated for one temperature, so a warm or cold sample needs adjustment before the reading is compared with a recipe target.
The tool accounts for the sample temperature, the hydrometer calibration temperature and the selected gravity unit.
The corrected value is the reading you would expect if the same sample were measured at the hydrometer calibration temperature.
Worth knowing
- Very hot samples are harder to correct accurately, so cool wort toward room temperature when you can.
- Use the calibration temperature printed on your hydrometer, not a default from another instrument.
